Claira
Hollingsworth
2011 IHSRA Queen
Hello, my name is Claira Hollingsworth. My parents are Jeff
and Lee Hollingsworth and I just completed my junior
year at Preston High School. My home town is
Preston, Idaho, yes the same place that Napoleon
Dynamite was from and that movie was actually shot
in my high school. My rodeo events include:
Barrels, Poles, Breakaway, Goat Tying, Cow Cutting,
Team Roping and the Queen Contest. This is my third
year in high school rodeo and was a member of the
Wrangler Division for 3 years and won the state pole
bending championship in 2006 and was privileged to
compete in Gallup, New Mexico for a 12th
place finish in the nation.
My academic achievements are: Academic letter 2010, Honors
English Student, 18 ISU credits, currently enrolled
in 2 USU classes, High honor roll for 3 years, 4.0
GPA at ISU, 2010 National Youth Forum for Medicine
nominee. In my spare time I also perform with the
Preston High School Acapella choir, play Basketball
and Volleyball, run Track, am a member of the FFA
and Honors Society. I am a varsity Cheerleader, the
1st Att. Franklin Co Junior Miss, have
earned my Young Women in Excellence Award, am the
current Vice President Great Basin Rodeo Team, 8th
District Queen 2009 & 2010, 2009 1st
Attendant Silver State International Rodeo, and
lastly the 2009 DNCFR Jr. Queen
I plan to complete my dental assisting certification at the
Bridgerland School of Applied Technology this fall
and continue my education in dental hygiene at Dixie
State College after I graduate next May.
Unlike any other sport I have participated in rodeo
requires more dedication, patience and love of the
sport that any of the others. Combining my skills
with my equine athletes and sometimes bovine and
goat participants takes more work than any other
sport I have been involved in. I also share rodeo
with my family, that is the best part of rodeo, -
family. Rodeo has also taught me a lot about life
that not everyday will be daylight runs and fast
times. Life really is about the luck of the draw.
My favorite quote is by Abe Lincoln, “I do the very
best I can, the very best I know how, and will
continue to do so until the very end.”
Good luck state qualifies! I know you will all be
doing the very best you can during the state finals
this year. |
